Universal to Google Analytics 4 Conversion
With Universal Analytics dying on July 1st, it is important that we convert our clients' analytics accounts to the updated Google Analytics 4.
Here are the steps to the conversion:
- Go to this web address while signed in as virteom@gmail.com:
https://analytics.google.com/analytics/web/#/p340017756/reports/intelligenthome - Pick any account that is prefaced with "UA-"
- Navigate to "Admin" in the bottom left
- Click "GA4 Setup Assistant"
- Click "Get Started"
- Click "Create and continue"
- If you see this page select "Install a Google tag"
- Click "Install manually," then copy the code provided
Depending on which website you are adding Google Analytics 4 to, you will need to follow a different set of steps.
Wordpress:
- Login to the site either through the server or using credentials saved in 1Password by going to the site, and adding "/wp-admin" to the url.
- Once you are logged into the site, navigate to "Appearance>Customize"
- Once the Customize menu opens up, navigate to "Code>Header"
- Paste the copied code to the dialogue box that opens up, and click Publish

Rocketsites:
- Login to the site using Ryan's or Alana's credentials by going to the site, and adding "/rocketsites" to the url.
- Once you have logged in click "Dashboard"
- Navigate to "System>Global Includes"
- In the "Header Includes" section paste the Analytics code after the tag manager code if present.
- **Important** make sure to add ="async" after async, or else it will crash the site. This literally happened to me while I was making this document, and it requires going into the Database to fix.
- Lastly scroll down and hit save. Make sure the site is still active, and if not contact Ryan.
