CMS Content Management Guide

(Rocketsites Editor / Page Content Editing)

Overview

This guide explains how to edit and manage website content within the CMS. The editor functions similarly to a word processor, allowing you to update text, format content, add images, and manage links directly on the page.

All edits are made within content regions, which are visually marked and editable once you enter edit mode.

Accessing the Page Editor

  1. Log into your website.
  2. Navigate to the page you want to edit.
  3. Click the “Edit Page” button at the top of the navigation.

Once activated, editable areas will appear with numbered circles, indicating content regions you can modify.

Editing Text Content

Basic Editing

  • Click inside any content region to begin editing.
  • Start typing to modify or replace content.
  • The editor behaves like a standard word processor.

Text Formatting Options

Use the toolbar to format content:

  • Bold / Italic / Underline
  • Font Size (up to 72pt)
  • Text Color
    • Use preset colors or paste a HEX code
  • Alignment
    • Left, center, right, or justified

Headings (Important for SEO)

  • Use the Heading dropdown to structure content.
  • The system includes pre-configured heading styles (H1–H6).
  • Headings improve:
    • SEO structure
    • Readability
    • Page hierarchy

Best Practice:

  • Use headings to break up sections logically.
  • Avoid overusing or skipping hierarchy levels.

  • Press Enter to create additional list items.

Image Sizing (Critical for Mobile)

  • Use percentage-based sizing (recommended)
    • Example: 50% width
  • Avoid fixed pixel sizes

Why this matters:

  • Percentage sizing allows images to scale properly across:
    • Mobile
    • Tablets
    • Desktop

Example:

  • 50% = half the content width
  • 25% = smaller, more compact image

Text Positioning & Advanced Formatting

  • Alignment tools control text positioning
  • Subscript / Superscript available for:
    • Formulas
    • Scientific notation

Tables (Use with Caution)

Tables are available but not recommended due to poor mobile responsiveness.

If You Must Use Tables:

  1. Click the Table icon
  2. Set:
    • Number of rows
    • Number of columns
  3. Use percentage width (100%) for responsiveness

Editing Tables

  • Right-click inside the table to:
    • Add/remove rows
    • Add/remove columns
    • Edit cells
    • Access table properties

Pasting Content (VERY IMPORTANT)

When copying content from external sources:

  • Always paste as plain text
  • Mac shortcut:
    Command + Shift + V

Why:

  • Prevents formatting issues
  • Avoids broken styling
  • Keeps CMS clean and consistent

Saving & Previewing Changes

Required Workflow

  1. Click Save Page
  2. Then click Preview

If you do NOT save:

  • All changes will be lost when leaving the page

Best Practices

  • Keep formatting consistent across pages
  • Use headings to structure content
  • Avoid excessive font size changes

  • Optimize image size before uploading

SEO

  • Use headings properly

  • Avoid large blocks of unformatted text

Technical Hygiene

  • Using pixel-based image sizes (breaks mobile)
  • Pasting formatted text from Word/Google Docs
